Cybersecurity Awareness: Protecting Student Data Together
Updated: 8 minutes ago

Every October, Cybersecurity Awareness Month reminds us of the importance of protecting personal information online. For schools, that responsibility extends beyond the classroom to the technology, systems, and partners that help support students and families.
At Legacy Studios, we understand the importance of protecting the information schools entrust to us, including student names, grade levels, photographs, and parent contact details.
While October brings extra attention to cybersecurity, keeping student information secure is a priority all year long.
Our Commitment to Student Data Security
We are proud to be among the first school photography companies to achieve SOC 2 Type I compliance, and we are currently undergoing our SOC 2 Type II audit.
SOC 2 is a widely recognized standard for evaluating security and data protection practices. Achieving Type I compliance demonstrates that our security controls have undergone independent evaluation at a specific point in time, while Type II examines how those controls operate over a period of time.
For the schools and families we serve, this reflects our continued investment in security, privacy, and responsible data protection.

Five Simple Ways to Strengthen Cybersecurity at School
Good cybersecurity starts with everyday habits. Whether you're a school administrator, teacher, or staff member, small actions can make a meaningful difference.
1. Think Before You Click
Phishing emails and suspicious links can appear to come from familiar people or trusted organizations. Double-check unexpected messages before opening attachments or sharing information.
2. Strengthen Passwords and Account Security
Use strong, unique passwords for each account and enable multi-factor authentication whenever possible. Always log out of shared computers.
3. Keep Devices Secure
Lock computers, tablets, and mobile devices when they're not in use. A simple habit like locking your screen can help prevent unauthorized access.
4. Be Thoughtful About Sharing Student Information
Only share student records, photographs, and personal information with authorized individuals and trusted partners who need access.
5. Make Cybersecurity a Schoolwide Conversation
Encourage students and staff to ask questions, report suspicious activity, and practice safe online habits throughout the school year.
